Let’s start with the man who GQ India farcically decided was the Most Stylish Man of the year: John Abraham. I’ll give it to him that he at least made an effort and didn’t turn up at the event in his usual tatty tees and ratty flip flops. *sigh* Where do I begin? The fit of the suit is all sorts of wrong, and sans a neck- or bow-tie he looks plain sloppy.

Shahid Kapoor’s another culpable one. He even wore a nicely-fitted tux − would it have hurt to not turn up open-necked at a dressed-up do? It’s not cool, not in the slightest, guys. And those are some seriously ugly shoes. Also, guys, take a note: you’re not supposed to leave the top button of your suit jacket undone when standing, like Shahid has. Only when you’re seated that you can unfasten it! That’s a sartorial faux-pas, FYI.

But here’s one who got it right: Anil Kapoor, who cut quite the dashing figure in a Dolce & Gabbana tux. And the black scarf flung around his neck… Now that’s a man with a flair for style!

Admittedly, Neil Nitin Mukesh‘s shiny navy tux is not to everyone’s tastes, but it was fashion-forward, it fit him right, and he was wearing with it an air of calm… BUT, he poured cold water over all the good work by putting on a belt, which is a complete no-no for black-tie dressing. Guys, yes, your tuxedo trousers should not even have loops, let alone thinking of wearing in a belt. And the bow-ties snob in me is jilted everytime by the sight of a pre-tied bow… *sigh*

His shiny trousers are offending my eyes, aren’t they to yours too? The hem needed to go way up, but that wasn’t the only wrong stride he took here. He, too, had a belt on, that too a tacky a logo-flashing one *tut*tut*

Another sartorial disappointment of the night was dished out by Dino Morea. He did make the effort, and even threw in an interesting waistcoat into the mix… If only he could get his trouser length right… If only he could get the cut and fit of his suit right… If only he buttoned-up his suit jacket… Ergo, he ended up looking anything but slick.

It’s the same for Ajay Devgn, too. He went the whole hog with the suit, waistcoat, tie and pocket square, yet he looked like he couldn’t be arsed with it. If only the suit fit him better… If only the tie was done up properly… If only the black pocket square was just not stuffed LIKE THAAAAT… Like Dino, if only he didn’t leave the top button of his jacket undone… If only, if only…

But none of them looked half as comical as those four, particularly Sidhartha Mallya, who looked like a bartender at a gawdy 70s cruise liner of looked. The white tux with black accents is just plain unsightly, and the shabbily tied bow… Aaaaarrrgggh! Gentlemen, this is how *not* to do an all-white look.

And the best for the last: Mukul Deora. He had me at his patterned grey jacket with contrast lapels. And oh, those well spiffy loafers. And that pop of colour by way of socks and tie… The mark of a true dandy.
